Neptunus deliver VIP space for the Alphine Ski World Cup 2013

Neptunus overcame difficult weather conditions and supplied several VIP hospitality and catering facilities for the Hahnenkamm stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup.

The event saw the world’s greatest skiers battle it out on the slopes of Kitzbühel in Austria last month. Amongst the adrenalin-fuelled races were the Super-G on the Streifalm, Downhill on the Streif, and the Slalom on the Ganslernhang. Competitors were cheered on by thousands of spectators, including Austrian legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Neptunus was commissioned to install its Evolution structures to form over 4,000 sq m of temporary space at the ski resort, which consisted of a 30 x 80 m VIP hospitality area, a 30 x 60 m catering facility and a backstage area of 4 x 65 m. All the structures were heated and fully furnished. The VIP hospitality lounge was fitted with two mezzanines and glass panels at the front of the building. This provided guests with a perfect viewing platform from which to see all the race action close-up within the comfort of the building.

A team of Neptunus technicians had to overcome a series of operational challenges in order to meet the brief on time. The uneven mountainside terrain presented its own challenges; made greater by the some of the worst weather conditions ever experienced at the event. To overcome these obstacles, Neptunus erected metal scaffolding underneath the structure to form a level surface and a solid foundation to support the weight of the building. Despite deep snow, the roof was assembled at ground level and hoisted into place using hydraulics.

The temporary buildings had to be resilient to the weather and able to withstand the weight of any more falling snow. As one of the most technically advanced temporary structures available in today’s market, the Evolution provided the perfect solution as its durable components create the look and feel of a permanent building at a fraction of the cost. “These were some of the worst weather conditions that we’ve ever encountered in the three years that we’ve been doing this project,” comments April Trasler, Neptunus’ managing director. “In spite of all the challenges, our team used their many years of experience to ensure the project was delivered on time and to a high standard.”
