LAPADA opens London’s autumn Art & Antiques season

It’s that time of year again, when London’s Berkeley Square becomes home to one of the most prestigious events in the city’s social calendar: LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair. For its 10th anniversary Neptunus, specialist in demountable buildings, provides more than 3,800 square metres of temporary structures to house the 110 exhibitors plus a bar and restaurant area for visitors.

The LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair takes place from 14 - 19 September for which 3,800 square metres of exhibition space is required. Neptunus was commissioned to build several temporary structures for LAPADA, which can be retained and re-used by the Pavilion of Art & Design in October.

Neptunus erected a large Alu Hall, Double Decker and an Alure Globe, covering a total surface area of more than 3,800 square metres. The Alu Hall is well suited to events such as LAPADA and PAD; spacious and with flexibility to accommodate all requirements, the Alu Hall also provides an ideal ‘blank canvas’ as a backdrop to the displays of artwork.

As a clear span structure, available in a multitude of widths, the Alu Hall is a modern and versatile space in which to contain a combination of exhibition space and visitor facilities. The LAPADA structures will retain and be reused by the Pavilion of Art & Design in October, which results in minimizing the carbon footprint and fewer disruptions. When dismantling there won't be any trace of the structure’s presence and the landscape will be unaffected.

The Challenges
Berkeley Square - Central London - is an extremely high profile and sensitive site that provided the Neptunus installation team with numerous logistical challenges. In addition, 31 protected trees, all of which are aged over 200 years old, had to be preserved in the build phase to ensure they were not damaged.

To overcome these challenges, Neptunus designed a solution that was carefully constructed to incorporate some trees within the structures – including the Double Decker. This effectively protected the site and its historic features.

Despite site restrictions meaning that unloading of materials was only possible at night, Neptunus delivered the project on time and to the customer’s requirements.
